Volunteer at #AAJA17

The 4-for-4 volunteer program allows volunteers to exchange four hours of convention volunteering for four hours of convention time. 

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
Volunteers who are interested in receiving a discount on their convention registration MUST ALSO register for the convention before Friday, July 21, and they will be refunded based on the number of hours they work AFTER convention. Volunteers may either purchase a professional or student registration for the full convention or a single day pass for Thursday or Friday. If you just want to volunteer your time and do not plan on attending any convention events or workshops, please continue to fill out this form, select the Goodwill Volunteer option and email danielg@aaja.org.

If you ARE NOT a Goodwill Volunteer (meaning you are volunteering because you want to volunteer, not be reimbursed your convention registration), DO NOT check the Goodwill Volunteer box at the bottom. If you check it, YOU WILL NOT BE REIMBURSED FOR YOUR HOURS WORKED.

Volunteer Hours: 
- Volunteer for 1 shift (4 hours) = 1/4 convention registration reimbursed
- Volunteer for 2 shifts (8 hours) = 1/2 convention registration reimbursed
- Volunteer for 3 shifts (12 hours) = 3/4 convention registration reimbursed
- Volunteer for 4 shifts (16 hours) = FULL convention registration reimbursed (gala ticket included)


The shifts you are signing up for are preferences. AAJA reserves the right to place you elsewhere should the need arise. Shifts will be filled on a first come, first serve basis and shifts are subject to change. Hours are nontransferable and can only be redeemed for convention registration.

NOTE: The minimum age to volunteer is 16 years old. Volunteers under the age of 18 will be required to complete a parental consent form.

Deadline to sign up is Friday, July 21.



Please note that AAJA takes your commitment to volunteer seriously, and valid credit card information is required to sign up. There will be a $25 penalty fee for no-shows. For shift cancellations or changes, we require at least 24 hours notice prior to the scheduled shift. If a volunteer cancels within 24 hours of their scheduled shift, there will be a $25 penalty fee.

Volunteer Positions:

Bag Stuffing:
Join AAJA Staff to set up for the National Convention. We will need volunteers to assist in helping to set up onsite logistics. Duties will include: stuffing convention bags, sorting logistic items, etc. This is a light activity. You should be able to lift 10-15 lbs. Repetitive lifting and bending will be required. Lunch will be provided.

Wednesday Workshop Runners:
The commitment is for the full workshop on Wednesday, July 26. Before and after, you'll help with check-in and distribution of training materials. Afterward, you'll provide light wrap up as needed. You may stick around for the Opening Reception at 6pm. Light refreshments will be provided. This is a light activity and may require you to be on your feet for a long duration.

Registration:
Be a part of the team that makes convention happen. Help at AAJA’s convention check-in where you will greet convention-goers, check-in registrations and answer basic questions. You may be assigned to other duties as they apply. This is a light activity where you may sit for extended periods.

Expo Hall:
You will be stationed at the entrance and responsible for checking badges as attendees enter. You will also need to answer any questions and assist attendees as needed. This is a light activity where you may stand for extended periods.

Room Captain:
You will be in charge of logistics for a workshop – You will check-in speakers and panelists, work with designated AV personnel to resolve any AV issues within the room and pass out materials as needed. AAJA National staff will make sure you know how to help each presenter. This activity may require you to move around and stand for extended periods.

Silent Auction/Story Slam Set Up & Monitors: 
Help set up auction items for the big night or help settle auctions after bidding closes. Light lifting and carrying may be needed during set-up, so please wear comfortable clothing.

Keep track of items and bids and answer questions as convention-goers attend Silent Auction. After Auction is over, volunteers will assist in clean up and take down. This activity may include a lot of movement or standing for a long duration.

Gala Usher:
Help set the room for the Gala dinner. Escort VIPs and direct guests to their tables. Assist with taking tickets at the door. A limited number of gala tickets will be provided to volunteers. This position will require you to constantly be on the move.

Photobooth Assistant:
Assist the photographers at our headshot/portrait studio. This position will require standing and helping convnetion attendees while they have their headshots taken.
